About the Brava Slim 30 BFR

Italian engineering. Australian compliance.

The Brava Slim 30 BFR is Fonderie SIME's last-generation low-temperature wall-mounted gas boiler, designed for HEATING ONLY applications — radiators, hydronic underfloor and skirting heating. Domestic hot water is delivered via a separate hot water cylinder (heated through a hydraulic separator and three-way valve, both supplied by AHHAC as part of the install kit).

Sime's design choices on the Brava Slim are deliberate. An atmospheric burner with a copper heat exchanger gives long-term reliability and easy serviceability. A sealed combustion chamber (sealed from the room it's installed in) means combustion air is drawn from outside via the coaxial flue, eliminating any room-air dependency and meeting modern airtight-build requirements. The microprocessor control board supports OpenTherm modulating remote controls, room thermostat inputs and an external climatic-curve sensor — so flow temperature can vary automatically with outside temperature for 5–10% additional seasonal efficiency.

Two variants serve different install locations. The 30 BFRi (Reece code 8112540) is designed for indoor installation — service cupboards, garages, laundry alcoves. The 30 BFRe (Reece code 8112541) is engineered for outdoor installation with IP X5D weather-rating against atmospheric agents — eave-shelters, side returns, plant decks. Both produce identical heat output and efficiency.

Safety & control features

  • Atmospheric burner combined with copper heat exchanger — proven long-life construction.
  • Sealed combustion chamber — combustion air drawn from outside via coaxial flue (BFRe) or natural-draft flue (BFRi).
  • Microprocessor electronic board with OpenTherm-compatible remote control input.
  • External sensor input enables climatic-curve operation — flow temperature varies with outdoor temperature.
  • Anti-freeze function activates automatically below configured threshold (PAR 10 / PAR 11).
  • Anti-blocking pump and diverter valve — auto-cycles every 24 hours if no heat demand.
  • 15-minute chimney-sweep mode for technician combustion checks.
  • Self-diagnostic display with error codes and reset history.
  • 100 °C thermal safety thermostat — over-temperature shutdown.
  • 3-bar pressure relief valve protects expansion vessel and system.
  • Heating water pressure transducer — continuous monitoring.
  • Electronic fan-operation verification — no air pressure switch required.
  • Stand-by, Summer and Winter operating modes (Summer mode N/A on heating-only unit).
Common questions

Sime Brava Slim 30 BFR — FAQ

Who makes the Brava Slim 30 BFR?+
The Brava Slim 30 BFR is designed and manufactured by Fonderie SIME S.p.A., one of Italy's largest hydronic boiler manufacturers. It's distributed in Australia by Reece Plumbing, the country's largest plumbing supply network. AHHAC is an authorised installer and stocks both variants across our three workshops.
What is the difference between BFRi and BFRe?+
The 30 BFRi (Reece code 8112540) is engineered for internal installation in rooms or service cupboards. The 30 BFRe (Reece code 8112541) is engineered for outdoor installation — rated IP X5D for protection against atmospheric agents (water spray, dust). Both produce the same heat output and efficiency; the BFRe simply has the additional weather-resistant enclosure and coaxial duct arrangement.
What is the heat output?+
Nominal heat output at 80/60 °C flow/return is 28.1 kW. The boiler modulates down to 13.1 kW on natural gas, or 9.2 kW on universal LPG. Nominal heat input is 120 MJ/h (60 MJ/h minimum). This output range covers most residential hydronic systems — typically a 200–280 m² Australian home with radiator or underfloor distribution.
Does the Brava Slim 30 BFR produce hot water?+
No — the Brava Slim 30 BFR is a HEATING-ONLY boiler. For domestic hot water, you'll need a separate hot water cylinder (the boiler can heat the cylinder via a hydraulic separator and three-way valve). 'Summer' mode on the boiler is not applicable for this reason — only Stand-by and Winter modes are active.
What's the efficiency?+
Maximum useful efficiency 93.7% at 80/60 °C operation. Minimum useful efficiency 87.3% at part load. The atmospheric burner is paired with a copper heat exchanger optimised for low-temperature operation. With a climatic-curve external sensor (lowering flow temperature on milder days), seasonal efficiency improves further by 5–10%.
What are the emissions?+
The Brava Slim 30 BFR is rated NOx Class 5 — under 70 mg/kWh of nitrogen oxide emissions, the lowest classification available for gas boilers. CO2 at maximum flow rate is 7.1% (natural gas) / 7.8% (LPG). Gas consumption: 3.17 m³/h max / 1.59 m³/h min on natural gas.
Is the Brava Slim 30 BFR certified for Australian installation?+
Yes — fully certified to Australian standards. AS/NZS 4552 Gas Safety Certification under SAI Global license SAI-400197. Compliant with AS/NZS 5601 (Gas Installations), AS/NZS 3500 (Water Services, Sanitary Plumbing and Drainage) and AS/NZS 3000 (Electrical Installations, Buildings, Structures and Premises). Must be installed by a professionally qualified gas-fitter and electrician.
How often does it need servicing?+
Sime recommend twice-yearly maintenance to maintain warranty validity and ensure safe operation. AHHAC offers an annual service contract that includes both visits — typically a spring service (post-heating season) and an autumn pre-season check. We also handle the 15-minute chimney-sweep function combustion measurement at every service.
What controls and safety features are included?+
Microprocessor electronic control board with OpenTherm-compatible remote control or room thermostat input. Climatic curve operation via external sensor (boiler flow temperature adapts to outdoor temperature). Anti-freeze function (auto-activates below configured threshold), 24-hour anti-blocking pump/diverter cycle, self-diagnostic error codes with display. Safety: 100 °C thermal safety thermostat, 3-bar relief valve, heating water pressure transducer, delivery sensor, electronic fan operation check (no air pressure switch needed).
Where does AHHAC install Sime Brava Slim boilers?+
Across NSW, ACT, VIC and QLD from our Punchbowl (NSW), Laverton North (VIC) and Banyo (QLD) workshops. Scope includes design, supply, gas-fitter compliance certificate, electrical compliance, commissioning, customer handover and ongoing service contracts.
